Hi, just found your site while searching for โVitamix as food processorโ and am bookmarking like crazy. This shake is amazingโI canโt believe itโs so simple. I had a few ounces of leftover ice coffee and added it, subtracting from the almond milk (I used oat milk actually). Thank you!
Much better than half dissolved hemp powder in water (my go to, sadly)! Love this recipe
Clean Label Project says Vega brand protein powder is full of toxic heavy metals and mycotoxins https://www.cleanlabelproject.org/products/vega-vanilla-protein-greens/
So while waiting for my Vitamix A3500 to arrive I decided to make this Protein Shake in a standard blender. Actually I really liked it and canโt wait to make it in the A3500. It says itโs shipped, but no shipping notification email yet. Fingers crossed it will arrive before the weekend. Canโt wait to try the Cashew Queso! This website is a great resource! Keep it up!
You’re right! This is so much better than just using protein powder, banana and milk, which I’ve been doing forever, and the tamper, in the larger container of my S30, worked like a charm! Thanks for the recipe.
What are good substitutions when you are allergic to bananas and peanuts? Thanks!
Banana subs: Squash or avocado.
Peanut subs: almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds.
Okay, so I just made this yesterday, Lenny, and gotta tell ya: you’ve gone monk on us!

There’s one huge problem with this smoothie: Vega tastes gross…by anyone’s standards.
In looks, Vega suffers from a weird pale snot-green hue and weirder metal-shaving-like consistency: i.e. it forms “shavings”, for lack of a better word, which stick to the scoop (or your hand) exactly like one of those elementary school metal-shavings-to-a-magnet experiments.
But most importantly in taste…one whole scoop of Vega (vanilla) is overpoweringly yucky!! It’s tough to describe: tries to be vanilla but mostly overpowered by the peas it was extracted from as well as whatever other gibberish they added. [Aside: I’ve tried a bunch of powders and surprisingly, Target’s Market Pantry Chocolate officially tastes the best (it’s not vegan).]
Anyway, back to this shake…
Better:
–1/2 scoop Vega
–fatty handful of spinach
Summary: less Vega is more taste, and spinach makes it healthier and green.
Cheers!
Fair assessment and good recommendation — you can never go wrong with less processed add-ins and more greens.
Thanks for all the good recipes. Suggestion: I would like to see more Vitamix usage info; e.g. how to make cauli-rice (grains) in 20 seconds in the VM. wanting: vegetable chopping and other wondrous things (besides blending and pureeing) that the VM will do! thanks.
Have you seen our Detox Salad? That’s right up your alley.
