We’ve tested every model and hand-picked these three for 95% of home cooks
After 12+ years of helping customers find the right blender, we’ve learned that the best Vitamix isn’t just about featuresโit’s about finding the one that fits your life and values. That’s why we’ve curated just three models that consistently make our customers happy.

Best for: Anyone who wants the “just right” Vitamix without overthinking it
The X2 is what we recommend to 70% of our customers. It has everything you actually need, nothing you don’t, and room to grow with accessories if you want them later.
Perfect for daily smoothies, weekly soup batches, entertaining guests, and gradually expanding into things like nut butters and food processing. The 48-ounce container handles everything from single servings to family portions.
If you’re absolutely certain you’ll never want accessories or programs, the E310 saves money. If you want the premium stainless steel look, go with the X4.
Container: 48oz | Warranty: 10 years
Best for: Those who want the nicest Vitamix and don’t mind paying for premium aesthetics
The X4 is identical to the X2 in performance but adds premium touches that make it feel more expensive than it is.
If your kitchen is your happy place and you appreciate quality design, the X4 feels substantially more premium for $100 more. The stainless steel doesn’t just look betterโit may dampen sound slightly.
If you’re primarily focused on function over form, the X2 does everything this does. If budget is tight, you’re paying for aesthetics that don’t improve performance.
Container: 48oz | Warranty: 10 years
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers who want real Vitamix performance
For a slightly lower price, you get the same motor power as our premium models. You’re just giving up some convenience features and future expandability.
If you want Vitamix quality at the lowest price and don’t need the extra features, this is an excellent choice. Just know that you can’t upgrade it later with accessories.
Container: 48oz | Warranty: 5 years

We get asked about other models all the time. Here’s why we chose these three:
The 5200 is the most commonly recommended model online because it’s nearly identical in size and shape to what chefs use in commercial kitchens.
Here’s the thing: the 5200 is a solid blender, but it’s also 15+ years old. No preset programs, no add-on attachment compatibility, no tamper holder, and a extra tall container that’s not dishwasher safe.
The X2 gives you everything the 5200 does plus dishwasher-safe containers, programs, and accessory compatibility. Unless you specifically want the tall, narrow container, the X2 is better. You get modern convenience and future compatibility with the same controls and end-results.
But honestly? If you’re set on the 5200 sale, we get it. Just know you’ll probably want to upgrade in a few years when you realize what you’re missing.
Want to support our work and get a 5200? Grab our digital cookbook – it’ll make whatever Vitamix you end up with work harder for you.
The A3500 was excellent, but the comparable X4 has more features, a more streamlined design, and comes with a more versatile container the 48-ounce.
The X5 and X4 are performance twins – identical motors, identical containers, identical results. The only difference is the X5 has five extra preset programs and a flashier dial.
Here’s why we choose the X4 over the X5: better user experience through simplicity. The X4’s streamlined controls get you blending faster without hunting through menus. You can make everything the X5 makes – smoothies, soups, nut butters, ice cream – but with less button confusion.
Think of it like choosing between a smartphone with 47 apps you’ll never use versus one with just the essentials. Same core functionality, cleaner experience.
Want the flashiest option regardless? The X5 performs identically to our recommended X4. Get the X5 from our friend Jen at Simple Green Smoothies’s linkโ โ she’s another small business owner we love supporting.
The X3 is Amazon and Vitamix-direct exclusive, so we couldn’t carry it even if we wanted to. But honestly? You’re not missing much.
It’s essentially a watered-down X4 – same size and basic functionality, but with cheaper construction and fewer features. Think of it as Vitamix’s attempt to compete on price rather than quality.
If budget is tight, the E310 gives you authentic Vitamix performance for less money. If you want the premium Ascent experience, the X4 is worth the step up. The X3 sits in an awkward middle ground – not quite budget, not quite premium.
Our take: Skip the compromised middle option and choose based on what actually matters to you.
Propel models are a solid, mid-level option for those wanting some programming. But without the ability eventually add accessories, most people are better saving a bit on an Explorian or jumping to Ascent.
Most Professional Series models (Pro 750, 7500, etc) have been discontinued or replaced by X-Series. The ones still available don’t offer compelling advantages over our picks.
The X-Series replaced these with better value. The X2 gives you everything the A2500 did for less money, plus improvements.
Close your eyes and imagine each model arriving at your door. Which one makes you think “I wish I’d gotten the other one”? That’s usually not the right choice.
Flip a coin between your top two choices. Notice which result you’re secretly hoping forโthat’s probably your answer.
Will you be the type of person who adds accessories later? If yes, get X2 or X4. If you just want to make smoothies forever, E310 is fine.
Choosing made easy
The 2×2 Grid Explained:
You only need to make two choices:
– Budget Friendly + Physical Switches: Explorian E310 (budget choice)
– Future Proof + Physical Switches: Ascent X2 (most popular)
– Future Proof + Stainless Steel Finish: Ascent X4 (premium choice)
Vitamix makes 15+ models. We tested them all and chose these three because they handle 95% of what home cooks actually need. You get better choices, not more choices.

The X4 may be slightly quieter than the X2, and both are significantly quieter than the E310. If noise is a major concern, avoid the E310.
Yes, but only for the X2 and X4. The E310 can’t use the Food Processor Attachment or small containers.
Identical blending performance. You’re paying for stainless steel finish, touchscreen, and two extra programs with the X4.
Vitamix refurbished models are excellent quality with shorter warranties. However, the price difference is usually small enough that we recommend new for the full warranty.
48 ounces (what all our models include) is perfect for 1-4 people. With it, you can make the standards, but also ice cream and dressings without committing to large batches. You can add larger 64-ounce container as needed.
With normal use, 10+ years easily. Many customers have 20-year-old Vitamix blenders still running perfectly.
Remember: Any Vitamix is better than no Vitamix. These three models will all make excellent smoothies, soups, and everything else you throw at them. The choice is really about features, budget, and personal preference.
