kcalWe set out to make a birthday cake shake and discovered the best way to make any shake resembling vanilla. This is one of the go-to protein shake formulas you should be familiar with. Frozen banana gets the creamy texture, oats for the batter (and removing chalky), and a generous amount of vanilla extract for the cake-y taste. Dates for sweetness, though they may be necessary if you’re using protein powder. Great after a workout, as a meal replacement for adults, or with popcorn and accoutrements for family movie night. Sprinkle-rimmed glass, totally unnecessary.
1¾ cups (420 mL) milk of choice
1 tablespoon (15 mL) vanilla extract
2 dates, pitted
¼ cup (22 g) rolled oats
1 whole frozen banana
1¼ cups (270 g) ice
1 tablespoon (20 g) flaxseed (optional)
1 scoop protein powder (optional)
I think you should do another pic with some funfetti shaken on top!
I love your recipes! You guys rock!
Thank you Shar! We made funfetti pancakes this weekend for our oldest’s birthday. 🙂
Do you really mean raw oats? Or can it be old-fashioned rolled oats? I don’t usually see those in stores.
Yeah, old-fashioned rolled. 🙂
Smooth, creamy, yummy.
Um, Yummy. Period.
Need you say more? 😉

[…] birthday cake? Here’s a simple smoothie that tastes just like it. It’s the Cake Batter Smoothie. We both have birthdays in early April, but it tastes delicious year […]
Would you happen to know the calorie count in this recepie?
We use unsweetened almond milk, so the total count is 470 calories (including the optional flax seeds). But the recipe makes either one monster smoothie, or 2 smaller ones to share (which is only 235 calories).
Is there a birthday cake recipe that you have made? If so, would you mind sharing it?
Hi Brenda,
At the moment, I don’t have a birthday cake recipe that “fits” the noyoke lifestyle.
But that’s a great idea.
Let me know if you find something worth of this site, eh?
Quick 2 questions:
1. Can you also just use egg whites straight out of the shell(s) in lieu of carton whites?
2. Is egg-white protein powder just as effective/same as fresh egg whites in the smoothies?
Thanks!
Hi Bridget,
Good questions.
1. I do not recommend using egg whites straight from the shell. I mean, it won’t kill you. But, I’m pretty hardcore and I wouldn’t even do that. Pasteurization eliminates any chance of getting sick. Plus, I think it helps with the consistency and taste.
2. Egg white protein powder is probably just as effective. I, however, perfected all my egg white smoothies with liquid pasteurized egg whites. The few times I’ve tried with the powder, they haven’t turned out as good. But the recipes may just need to be tweaked for the powdered version.
What else can I answer? 🙂
