What I’d email a friend wanting to know about the X2

If you want a Food Processor Attachment-compatible Vitamix with the most straight-forward user experience, go with the Ascent X2. In all our years doing this, the X2 is our favorite to recommend yet.

Using the Ascent X2 is super intuitive because of its all-tactile controls — just two switches and a dial. This design is similar to beloved models from the past like the Pro 750; variable controls on the right to operate manually, programs on the left for walk-away blending.

All Vitamix blenders are loud. But the X2, as part of the Ascent X Series, is less loud than the entry-level models. The Self-Cleaning program is especially less noisy than predecessors.

The X2 comes with what we call the Goldilocks container, the 48-ounce. It’s an ideal size for experimenting with everything from smoothies to hot soups to pesto without committing to large batches.

It’s compatible with the Food Processor Attachments and any any future attachments that require SELF-DETECT (like if Vitamix ever reintroduces the 8-ounce Personal Blending Attachment or does a juicing attachment). So while we recommend only getting what you need right now, it’s a system on which you can build when you’re ready.

The only minor considerations? The tamper holder could be more sturdy. And unlike some models, it doesn’t come with a physical cookbook. But these are small tradeoffs for what is otherwise an exceptionally well-rounded machine that could easily become your kitchen’s most reliable companion for the next decade.

Who the X2 may be for…

Legacy Vitamix Owners If you’re coming from a classic Vitamix like the 5200, the X2 will feel like home but better. The all-tactile controls and familiar container shape make for an easy transition, while additions like preset programs and a more compact design that fits under cabinets represent welcome upgrades to the experience you already love.

Small Families The 48-oz container is ideal for households of 1-2 people, striking the perfect balance between capability and convenience. Make pesto for tonight’s dinner, blend smoothies for two, or create frozen treats without committing to large batches. The container’s narrow design is particularly forgiving for beginners while still delivering professional results.

Empty Nesters For those who appreciate quality time in the kitchen without digital complexity, the X2 is a perfect match. It’s a sophisticated but low-key appliance that focuses on versatility rather than being a statement piece. Empty nesters particularly value its intuitive design for exploring new recipes together, while the 48-oz container is ideal for cooking for two.

Home Chefs For those who love to explore in the kitchen, the X2 offers the perfect blend of control and convenience. The tactile interface gives you precise command over textures, while preset programs handle routine tasks. The versatile 48-oz container is ideal for creating everything from small-batch sauces to medium-size batches of hot soups.

Who It May Not Be For

• Those preferring a brushed stainless finish (consider the X4)
• Users wanting a physical cookbook included with their purchase
• Households regularly preparing very large batches (64-oz container might be preferable)
• Legacy Vitamix owners wanting to leverage a fleet of legacy containers — The X2 is only compatible with SELF-DETECT containers
